DAMECUTA
The ruins of the elegant imperial residence, resting by the sea, converse with the wind.

On the north-western promontory of Anacapri, the plain of Damecuta is home to the Roman Villa of the same name, overlooking one of the most evocative stretches of coastline. Despite the damage and spoliation suffered over the centuries, the archaeological remains testify to the existence of a luxurious residential quarter, laid out along a panoramic walkway with views over the open sea. During twentieth-century excavations, the torso of a male statue—the so-called Narcissus—was discovered and is now preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Capri, at the Certosa di San Giacomo. The park also includes a small late medieval tower, built as a strategic lookout and coastal defence point.
